Banksman Signals, Harness Training & Attaching Platform to Forklift Truck
This HSE publication is now into it's 3rd edition, it concerns the use of working platforms on forklift trucks. Wherever possible and if for continual use a MEWP (Mobile Elevating Working Platform) should be used for working at height. But for occasional use a Working Platform attached to a suitable forklift truck can be utilised.
There are certain requirements for the use of this configuration: Fall Arrest / Safety Harnesses must be worn by the occupants of the platform, a pre-agreed signal system should be in place ideally BS 7121 and the cage must conform with the stipulations contained in PM28. There is also a requirement that only the lifting and lowering leaver be operative and no other leavers such as the tilting mechanism should be operative whilst the platform is elevated.
